Skiing........Into the Cold

So I went skiing, it was so much fun even though the first two days I took a couple hard falls, but I was told I caught on very fast. I even got to upgrade from the bunny hill to the country road, which I thought I tackled to early in the game for a beginner. The second time around though on the coutry road went smoothly. We drove to the resort and that took us 8hrs from the city of St. Johns to Corner Brook in a rental car. All in all it was an experience I will never forget. I was so excited the camera stayed in my pocket basically the whole trip.....oops.

Its been so busy these few weeks trying to meet with group memebers and getting Access projects out of the way. St. Paddy's Day aka St. Patricks day is coming up and my Irish buddies have already started the festivities. Since there is some Irish background to Newfoundland they also celebrate the event especially in the pubs/bars.

I also had some fries with gravy and chesse they call it poutine here, its good. They also eat fish and chips which is fish and fries thats like their Bamboo Shack.......mmmmmm...Bamboo Shack can't wait to eat some of that.

Well soon time to start packing to leave so far its been an enjoyable experience. But can't wait to get back home. Maybe in the future I will come back and visit the place. Who knows?

Am going to have an exciting midterm break.....

So finally I can breathe my midterm exams are over, for the last two weeks I have been consumed with work. I got my rent paid, I bought my books to study and I got a microwave (so no more stovetop 24 7). So our ski trip was cancelled but were still planning to go on our own ( me and the other international students), its going to be an experience. I don't know if I can make it over the bunny hill but at least I will be able to say I've been skiing.

I went to the shop the other day hoping to spend $50 on grocery to last me the month but when I got to the cashier she was like $71.23 am like ..............ahhhhh......Can I put something back becasue I only have $71.08? I had left the rest of my monies back at the apartment, so she had got some spare change and was like ok your good to go, are you walking with all of these bags?....I said "yes". I had two loaves a bread, 12 rolls, about 16 can goods ( tuna, corn, sardines, cream, etc), a 2 litre bottle of soda, a bag a fries, a bag of chicken strips and a few other goods totaling 36 items. My hands were aching, I had to continuously stop because I was tring to make it down a steep hill, the bags were almost heavier than me. When I got to the apartment door I left the bags outside because my hands were in so much pain.

I also went to a sushi party where we made sushi it was interesting they had crab salad, shimp and raw atlantic salmon for the meats. The rice was cooked and cooled the seaweed wraps were taken out, we had some cooked vegetables, cream cheese, soy sauce and some hot green stuff (I forgot the name). So we made the sushi and I tasted the crab and the shrimp, I wasn't doing the raw salmon......no....no....not me. After the first two my mouth said Anna this is not for you, so I listened. But I still got to make some afterwards it was cool.

Anyways I am curently being buried in my apartment because there is a snow storm outside and school is closed yippy.......Cherrios

Midterm is coming and I've been here a month...

So midterm is around the corner and I have yet to get a text book......funny isn't it.....if I had known the processing period was this long I would have tried to buy at least one with the funds I had and maybe just miss out on a few meals.......but a girl's gata eat. Sorry I havent been taking any pics but a camera right now is not affordable and of no priority. Currently at my apartment I don't even have a microwave.....lol.....things really tough.

So the other night my house mate came home and the door has a little disability and he didnt lock the dead lock. When I got up the door was open and the snow was inside because there was stormy weather that night. I mean all in my shoes.....So I tried to get him up by knocking politely on the door, then politely saying his name, then saying I need some help....so why do you think it took him so long to get up, by the time he did I had all the snow back outside where it belonged. But I wasn't going to be ringing out that cold mop....No not I.....so I threw all the shoes in the tub made sure the door could close made breakfast...mind you it was 12:30....then went back to bed. Lets just say my shoes were dry by this morning and so was the floor.

Every class I'm in has a group project......this is something that I really dislike, but I know that everyone has to work in groups at some point. I already got the excuse that a Super Bowl party had to be attended......'Oh Ok' thats all I had to say.

Anyways...there ain much luxury anymore like bubble gum icecream, so with my saltine crackers I gone........Oh and did I mention my rent due again....lol I gata try sweet talk them until Friday.....hopefully they like spaghetti

Well its finally putting 2 and 2 together and realizing that am actually in Canada.....

So everything is finally coming together I got my internet at home today, so I have some access to the world and I can keep connected. Now I have to go and catch up on like 3 weeks of 'Gossip Girl' and 'One Tree Hill'. I also got registered this week finally so am in my 4 courses, not all the ones iIorginally chose, but the fact still remains that am registered. My apartment is also ready for me to move in downstairs, the contractors haved finished their job. So am guessing 'they' (my glitches) were expecting me to reach Canada sometime this week. We Bahamians are always too early ...'NOT'.

So I've been cooking on a stove not in the the mircowave and not ready made dinners. One night I made me some fried chicken breast, Uncle Bens chicken flavoured rice, broccoli and corn. I was surprised that it turned out so well. I make sardine and grits, pancakes and sausage for breakfast, etc. My mom is so proud, people thought I would never make it in the kitchen.

I got lost a few times because I was trying to avoid walking home from school by catching the bus. The last time it was horrible i wanted to get off the bus but because of the snow storm he couldnt stop in the slush. The driver dopped me off but on another road up north but the area I live in was to my left, but I thought it was to my right and I ended up getting lost while the snow was to my calves. I called one of my buddies to let her know what happenend and that I was lost she she searched google earth found where I was and told me the street to look for, I had made a big circle. By the time I found my corner I was soaking wet and freezing I was sobbing because I had gotten lost just 2 days before. Its not cool getting lost in the cold.

My male roomates are not so bad but they love to party so do the Irish and German girls. So just about every night they go to the school's bar and drink the night away until the early morning so do the majority of Canadian students. The bar is actually open all day from like mid-day I believe, so in between classes or right after classes people go get a drink ...... an on campus bar ....Wow! I wonder if COB will ever have that ... hope not some students round there drunk as it is now. I go with them every now and again not to get drunk but to be sociable and to catch a few laughs.

I have been made an official Newfoundlander at a bar called Christians on the famous George St., it is the most bars, pubs, and clubs on one street, 30 in total on both sides, I believe. For the Screeching as they call it which is named after a Jamacian rum that was traded for fish back in the day. I had to say some jumbled words, kiss a dead frozen cod fish, do a dance, sing a song and then horse back a shot of Screech rum (40% alcohol). Then we got a certificate. Yay!!!

Even though there were many bumps in me getting here and getting settled there has been some fun times so far, its all apart of the experience. Just taking it a day at a time and my experience will help to make another persons experience 10 times better.

But with my 12 pack of Mountain Dew and my strawberry koolaid singles I'll be just alright.

No time to cry.................but making it

Well I am now in Canada but there was alot that I had to do to get here. Its no as bad as I thought it would be, weather wise. Lets just say I came as a visitor to my friend Sara.................. 'right' and your trying to figure out who does she know in Newfoundland. This is why I had no time to cry I was frantic, I just left telling my family and friends 'bye bye bye I gata go before I miss my flight'.

No one from the school was there to pick me up at the St. Johns airport as scheduled. So I caught a taxi 22.50 and no receipt. I got to the apartment off campus and was met by the landlords friend who is watching the house. Luckily he came because he was thinking of leaving the key in the mailbox. What a first impression that would have been for me.

I have no internet, no phone, no tv and no radio but at least I have light, water and heat. I have to walk like 30mins in the cold to school or pay $2.25 to catch a bus to school which I also have to walk to the bus stop approx. 10 -15 mins.

I met two of the buddies that were assigned to me and they assisted me on Tuesday. I had to text my mom to call my phone, then I had to tell her to call them and let them know I was here. Funny I have to text outside of Canada to call Canada. They showed me around a bit and took me to the grocery shop, it is quite expensive. We thought the Bahamas was bad. Margarine is over $3.00 I spent like $42.00 on about 10 items like bread, eggs, juice, apples, cereal and soup, etc. Well I haven't seen my buddies since but am sure they have other things to do.

My roomate Christian arrived, hes from Germany. He seems cool. Did I mention the apartment below where we are actually suppose to be staying was flooded and is now under renovation, so the contractors have up until the original tenants for where we are now upstairs arrive on the Jan 24.

Well anyways hopefully I will have some kind of communication from where am staying shortly and they will soon have me registered so I can get my school email address to pass in assignments online.

I should have brought my bubble gum icecream ................but I do have my grits for breakfast lol.

What traveling brings .....................

So I've been getting things together thinking 'OK' its coming along and then they try to deploy my boyfriend on a mission a few days ago he gets out of it and I think 'great' smooth sailing to the end, that is until I leave. Then Monday hits and I get this phone call "Am leaving today gat to quickly pack." So am sitting to work sobbing already for about 10mins am sad. I get offered some bubblegum icecream by my good friend but am not in the mood and then again I already have some at home.

Then I decide to go to the dentist this week schedule for Monday at 10 a.m., Dr C does not arrive until 11 a.m. I just missed out on a whole hour's pay. So I get the bill and its like 200 smackaroos, I had to ask the assistant at the desk if I got the right price, I didn't use any anesthesia. When I got to the dentist I didn't have any pains, now am sitting here typing this blog and pain is shooting through my head. My grammy asks "I thought you went to the dentist how do you come from the dentist with pain." Anyways thats another story......................................I got some medication, but I think am immune to the motrin.

I go to check my account at the bank on Monday also but I have to have my passport because the account has been closed and where is my passport, its at home, I have 2 pieces of identification but the passport is mandatory. 'OK' so I went back today. I have to sign up for a new account, at the bank I usually bank with openning an account takes about 30 mins and you get your atm card the same time. So wwhhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy is this lady dragging me and my mom in the office like we just committed a crime and are now in for questioning. In my head am like 'miss can you speed it up' I mean how much times do you need to look at a 5 digit number to write it down. I just wanted to push her out of the way and assist her by typing in the info and writing it myself. Then she tells me I may not be able to get the atm card until Monday. 'WHAT' lets try this again, am leaving on Sunday. Well pray that it reaches on Friday I will try to put a rush on it but where the holiday is coming up am not sure she says.

Like what is going on this week things are not working in my favour I hope by New Years I will have some better news .

Oh and another thing some smarty pants decided to put my bubble gum ice cream in the fridge .......WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! So no bubble gum ice cream tonight guys.

Hope your enjoying your holidays like I am (wink wink) lol and hopefully my boyfriend is back before I leave.

Pull It Together

Where has the time gone....................its coming down to last days here and its like my mind is boggled with things to do. How will it all get done? Especially with all of the holidays coming up. I'm tired! I don't want to forget anything. 'Snap' of the fingers girl pull it together! I've been trying to do it all, its time to relax and everything will fall into place. Bubble Gum ice cream please.................
